Come, Holy Spirit

Prayer in the morning

Gospel canticles • The gospel canticles (or “songs”) come from Luke's gospel. In honor of the mystery of the Incarnation (to which all three refer), it is customary to make the sign of the cross as the canticle begins and to stand while it is sung.

Prayer in the evening

This month's Scriptures The Spirit in the middle

Wisdom from our friends Choosing a third way • S. James Meyer co-founded StreetLights Outreach and Whatsoever You Do, Inc. He is a permanent deacon in the Diocese of Green Bay and author of Live Like You Mean It, Living with Real Presence, God Plays a Purple Banjo, and Jesus Wears Socks with Sandals.

To teach, govern, and sanctify Rich man and the beggar • Bishop Robert P. Reed serves as an Auxiliary Bishop of Boston and the Regional Bishop - West Region - for the Archdiocese of Boston. He was ordained a bishop in August 2016. He also serves as President of The CatholicTV Network, a communications ministry in Watertown, Massachusetts. The CatholicTV Network utilizes modern media to spread the gospel.

Walking with the Word Expectations of love

Guide for the journey Our ascension joy • St. Leo (c. 400-461) was elected pope in 440. He wrote many letters and orations in his efforts to unify the Church, arguing for the authority of popes and also against heresies. He interceded on behalf of Rome with invaders to spare unnecessary harm to Rome and its citizens. In this sermon, he says not to despair that Jesus’ presence is no longer physical. Like the apostles, whose faith grew with the ascension, know that Christ's divinity makes him all the more near to us.
