      This production opens with a burst of energy as a catchy song written especially for the story leads into author/narrator Bill Harley's performance. The combination quickly immerses listeners in the world of fourth-grader Charlie Bumpers as his family prepares for the arrival of his beloved Uncle Ron and less beloved younger cousin, Chip, who are coming for Thanksgiving. The voice Harley gives Chip captures just how irritating Charlie finds him when his family forces him to let Chip sleep in his room and follow him around. Thanksgiving itself is a boisterous affair, with broken windows, secret pacts, and valuable lessons almost learned. Young listeners will appreciate this warm and amusing family story. Harley has as good a handle on tumultuous family relationships as he does on school-day mishaps; suffice it to say, it takes Charlie a while to revise his definition of family as “a bunch of people you have to live with and share with even when you don’t want to.” Regardless of their own family makeups, readers will probably recognize some of their own relatives amid all the good-natured holiday chaos.
