K-Gr 3-This is an introductory series to Earth's continents and the landforms, animals, and plants found on each one. Opening spreads provide some defining details about the continent and a "Did You Know?" box with a few main facts relating to language, climate, and/or famous landmarks. Subsequent pages cover the location relative to the equator, the land and climate, plants and animals, countries and people. A concluding "Fast Facts" page includes statistical and geographical information, including pictured "Top Landmarks" and popular tourist spots. Illustrations are the set's strongest element, with a mix of labeled and captioned full-page and smaller boxed photos on each page, and shaded maps that show geographic features, landmarks, and cities are a plus. Although there are numerous sets about the continents for beginning readers, this one's slightly different emphasis on the natural world will have wide appeal. VERDICT Solid introductions to support nonfiction reading requirements.
