Anthony (The Book Haters' Book Club, 2022) presents a story about four friends who came of age in the 1990s and are still close. When Fern McAllister wrote a compilation of essays about herself and her friends back in the Sex and the City era, she never believed it would go viral. The book had a lukewarm reception back then, but now Gen Z has picked it up on TikTok. Fern's best friends--Carolina, Andi, and Emma--have always been prickly about their inclusion in the essays, but each one of them has her own problems as well. Carolina's constant exercising is stressing her body, Andi struggles with her son's poor attitude, and Emma is both recovering from a divorce and planning her daughter's wedding. Yet their friendship is the glue that holds them together. Anthony's novels are always engaging and easy to read. When difficult topics come up, the characters are able to find humor while coping. For those who remember the 1990s, the flashbacks will evoke feelings of nostalgia.
